Music from the US – Steve Gorn

Steve Gorn (* in New York City) is an American jazz and world musician (soprano saxophone, flutes).
Gorn studied composition at the Pennsylvania State University. Under the influence of musicians such as Bismallah Khan, Ravi Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan, his interest in Eastern music was born. In 1969 he went to Benares, where he met the Sarangimaster Gopal Misra and then in Calcuttahe was  student of Bansurimaster  Gour Goswami

Music from India – Ravi Shankar R.I.P.

Ravi Shankar  born 7 April 1920 in Varanasi, † December 11, 2012 in San Diego, real name Robindro Shaunkor Chowdhury was an Indian musician and composer who played the stringed instrument sitar.

He inspired the Beatles and became a hippie icon  in Woodstock, in  India, he was a superstar: the musician Ravi Shankar. Now he has died aged 92 in California.(the same age as Dave Brubeck a few days ago , you remember ? )

Anoushka Shankar is a British Indian sitar player and composer who lives between the United States, the United Kingdom, and India.  She is the daughter of Indian sitar player Ravi Shankar and the paternal half-sister of Norah Jones.  She has released seven albums.
