Music from the UK – All the Young

All the Young are a fantastic alternative band from Stoke-on-Trent in England.  They released their debut album Welcome Home in April and have released five singles.  This is the great song “Horizon”.  The band is currently touring in the UK so if you are there check out the tour schedule!

Music from the US – Toad the Wet Sprocket

Toad the Wet Sprocket is an alternative rock band that enjoyed chart success in the 90’s.  I always though they should have had more recognition for their great sound than they got.  The band is still together but their last studio album was in 1997.  This is their fantastic song “All I Want”, it was a single in 1992.

Music from Denmark – Mikkel Solnado

Mikkel Solnado, son of the portuguese actor and comedian Raul Solnado and the Danish Anne Louise, was born in 1975 in Copenhagen, Denmark, having lived in Portugal up to 19 years old. At this age he moved to Denmark and here, he began composing songs.

His lovely song: “Back to Life”

Music from Canada – David Vertesi

David Vertesi is also know for his work with indie group Hey Ocean!  His solo work is also fantastic, with a voice “like a rock” or to me something like Leonard Cohen, he is definitely worth listening to.  Here is a great song called “Mountainside”.

Music from Ireland – The Coronas

The Coronas are a very talented indie/alternative band from Dublin.  They have had great success in the UK with their 2011 album reaching #1 and winning numerous awards.  This is a great song by them “Heroes and Ghosts“.

Music from the US – Josh Ritter

Josh Ritter is an amazing singer-songwriter, he has an incredible voice and narrative lyrics.  In 2006 he was named one of the “100 Greatest Living Songwriters” by Paste magazine.  This is a really fun video for his song “The Curse”.

Music from the UK – Prefab Sprout

This English pop/rock band formed in 1978 and are still going having released a new album last year.  Great music, Paddy McAloon has a spectacular voice.  This is one of my favourite songs of theirs “When Love Breaks Down”. If can’t listen to this one in your country, here’s a live link ;)
