Music from the UK – David Bowie

David Bowie is an English musician, actor, record producer and arranger. A major figure for over four decades in the world of popular music, Bowie is widely regarded as an innovator, particularly for his work in the 1970s. He is known for his distinctive voice and the intellectual depth and eclecticism of his work.

His original song which tells us the story of a depressed astronaut: “Space Oddity”

In Portugal we have a radio program called “songs with history.” It was here that I heard this song after so long time and its story

  1. Bowie has had such a long, eclectic career, it’s almost impossible to pick a song that encapsulates what he’s all about. He’s the ultimate musical chameleon, and a great judge of talent himself – having had the likes of Luther Van Dross as a backing singer, Stevie Ray Vaughn as a guitarist, and Gail Ann Dorsey as a bassist – all great artists in their own
right. My favourite Bowie era is probably Ziggy and Aladdin Sane, but his catalogue is so rich, it’s hard to say! I was very pleased when he took Gail as bassist in his band. I have all her solo albums. Here’s her first solo single: Wasted Country
