Music from Norway – Katzenjammer

Katzenjammer is a Norwegian band from Oslo which was formed in 2005.The band members are Anne Marit Bergheim, Marianne Sveen, Solveig Heilo and Turid Jørgensen. Their music mixes genres such as folk music, pop, rock, country and Balkan music. The four members switch instruments often and have a stated goal of playing instruments they have not played before. They play more than 25 different instruments including the accordion, contrabass balalaika, zither, ukulele and melodica. The band collaborates with Mats Rybø, a fifth “phantom member”, who has written the bulk of the band’s songs. Another personal highlight for me on the Southside Festival 2012 in germany , if you ever get the chance to see them live , please don´t hesitate to go there , really a highlight. Here is their song “I will dance ”  Katzenjammer is german and means in english “cat sorrow” a synonym for bad , worthless music haha

Music from the UK – Band of Skulls

Band of Skulls are an English alternative rock band from Southampton, consisting of Russell Marsden (guitar, vocals), Emma Richardson (bass, vocals), and Matt Hayward (drums). The group formed after meeting in college, although Russell and Matt have been friends since school. I discovered them on the Southside Festival 2012 , just entered the tent , where they had their gig , without ever heard a song from them , so i was really surprised and astonished and amazed from their sound , post 70-rock music .  Russell Marsden changed his guitar after each song , used a fender or a vintage guitar , played like Hendrix using his guitar like Hendrix , really a great gig – love them ^^ my personal highlight this year regarding Rock music ^^

A photo from their gig in Germany

Here is their song – a live version from – Light of the morning

and a studio version of “The Devil takes care of him “
