Music from Israel/the US – Balkan Beat Box

Balkan Beat Box is a world music group that was founded 2003 by Ori Kaplan, Tamir Muskat and Tomer Yosef.

Co-founders Ori Kaplan and Tamir Muskat both met in Brooklyn, New York City, New York as teenagers.( in the german wiki they say they both grew up in Israel and first met in Brooklyn )  Both had grown up with music; Kaplan had been a klezmer clarinetist (Gogol Bordello ) , while Muskat was a drummer in a punk rock band.. They established their own unique sound by fusing the musical styles of Mediterranean and Balkan traditions with hip hop and dancehall beats.

Here is their song “Bulgarian Chicks “

(thx to Peter Glaser http://glaserei.blog.nzz.ch/)

here is the original song , it´s based on a bulgarian folk song called “Ladunyo”

and a live clip from the band

Their song “hermético” was sampled by Jason Derulo for the song “Talk Dirty”.
